{Experiments with metal shafts went through many phases. In 1924 the Union Hardware Organization of Torrington, Connecticut, U.S., drew a seamless shaft of large-carbon metal which could be warmth-handled and tempered. It had been accredited because of the R&A in 1929 and considerably replaced hickory from the early 1930s. While in the nineteen six
